Post-proposal planning!

In our post-proposal stage, we now want to further reflect upon our target audience. Generation Y is an obvious choice – according to studies, they engage in illegal downloading the most. Check out the stats here

However, in our digital culture, Gen X and the baby boomers generations should not be overlooked. Music has always been desired. They will probably be equally as interested in “Practically Famous”, curious to discover the implications of the digital age and what they can do to make a difference!

Next week, we will need to have a back up plan for our interactive element. So far we have an instagram campaign to highlight just how easily music can be stolen.  We’re not against the digital age! As “citizen journalists”, disseminating this information onto an online platform is just the way we want to educate and inform!

Music a universal desire

Music will always be desired. That is a fact. Over the past 15 years, illegal downloading of music as well as streaming, has been on the rise. In 2012 to 2013, music consumption through streaming grew 32% and music sales fell 6.3%. The desire to purchase music has diminished, yet we still crave music. New technologies and media enable consumers to exercise control over what they see and hear. In effect, this has empowered users to have control over their decisions. Let’s discuss this within the context of music consumption in the digital era. When choosing to download music for FREE, what does this mean for artists? Are we really to believe that making money from music is a thing of the past? This was a question plaguing the mind of my group members over the last couple of weeks. Something interesting to explore in our feature? I think so!
